In today’s market, a large portion of furniture is made from engineered wood. This material is created by pressing wood fibers or particles together using glue and high heat. The surface is then covered with a thin layer of veneer or a printed film that imitates natural wood grain. While this method allows for mass production and lower prices, it also comes with trade-offs. Beneath the surface, engineered wood lacks the natural strength and character of solid timber. Over time, it is more likely to swell or chip when exposed to moisture, and once the outer veneer layer is damaged, repairs are difficult or impossible.
