Scandi dining: style, timbers and pieces

Every piece here is the Richmond range, Cedora's Modern Scandinavian series. This page holds the dining pieces only. The Richmond living room pieces sit in Scandinavian furniture alongside the bedroom ranges.

Scandi dining, done properly

A Scandi dining room is a light room with one strong horizontal in it. The table is rectangular, the legs are slim and set in slightly from the corners, and everything else stays low. The finish does the talking, so there is no moulding or applied detail to distract from the timber.

Table or table and bench

A bench on one side is the Scandi signature and it earns its place: it tucks fully under the table, so a small room reads as bigger when the table is not in use. The 150cm bench seats up to 3 and the 200cm seats up to 4, against a 190cm table that seats 6 and a 240cm that seats 8. Chairs on the other side keep it comfortable for longer meals.

Building the room

Table, then seating, then the sideboard along one wall. Black and natural are both in the range, and mixing the two is deliberate rather than accidental: a natural top over black legs is a standard Scandi move. Caring for the finish

Both finishes in this range are best treated the same way: mats under anything hot, spills wiped and dried rather than left, and no abrasive cleaners on the top. The black finish hides marks better day to day but shows dust and fingerprints more, while natural does the opposite. Neither is harder to live with, they just fail differently.

What size Scandi dining table do I need?

The 190cm seats up to 6 and the 240cm seats up to 8. Leave about 90cm clear on each side for chairs. If space is tight, the 190cm with a bench on one side is the most efficient layout in the range.

Are the tables round?

No. Both dining tables in this range are rectangular. Round tables are common in Scandi design generally but Cedora does not currently make one.

What finishes are available?

Black and natural. Tables, benches, chairs and sideboards all come in both, so a room can be built entirely in one or deliberately mixed. See the wider range of sideboards and buffets for other finishes.

How is it delivered?

Free delivery applies on orders over $500, with a flat rate below that. Dining tables arrive flat packed for assembly.
