One Sideboard Drawer Here Is 87cm Wide. Another Is 54cm. Both Are 180cm Cabinets.

Short answer: the Oxford and Liverpool sideboards are both 180cm wide. The Oxford has one drawer running 87.4cm across. The Liverpool has three, each 53.8cm. Same wall, same money bracket, completely different storage. One swallows a tablecloth flat. The other sorts cutlery into three.

Sideboards get chosen on how they look and then lived with on what they hold. The look is the easy part. The holding is where people find out they bought the wrong one.

Long and Shallow, or Short and Deep

The Oxford drawer is 87.4cm wide and 17.8cm deep. The Liverpool drawer is 53.8cm wide and 21.6cm deep. Neither is better. They are built for different things and the difference shows up the first time you use them.

The 87.4cm drawer wins on anything long. A tablecloth folded once. Placemats stacked flat without a crease down the middle. Serving platters lying down instead of on edge. Table runners, which are the single most annoying item to store in a normal drawer.

The 53.8cm drawers win on anything you need to separate. Three drawers means cutlery in one, napkins and candles in another, chargers and batteries in the third. At 21.6cm deep they also take bottles lying down, which the shallower Oxford drawer will not.

Height Changes What the Top Is For

There is 21cm between the tallest and shortest of these, and it is the most overlooked number on the page.

Byron at 86cm and Oxford at 85cm sit at kitchen bench height. You can serve from them standing without stooping, which is what a sideboard in a dining room is actually for.

Richmond at 65cm sits below a dining table top. That makes it a poor serving surface and a very good piece under a window, behind a sofa, or anywhere a taller cabinet would block a sightline.

Liverpool at 76cm lands exactly at dining table height, which reads well as a continuation of the table and is comfortable to serve from seated but not standing.

Choosing in One Question

Ask what goes in the drawer, not what goes on top.

  • Linen, placemats, platters, anything flat and long, go Oxford at 87.4cm.
  • Cutlery, small items, anything that needs sorting, go Liverpool with three drawers.
  • Nothing much, and the top matters more, choose on height instead: 85cm to serve standing, 65cm to keep a sightline open.

Everything behind the doors is a shelf, and shelves are much the same everywhere. The drawer is the part that differs, and it is the part you open every day.

For what people actually keep in one, see What to Store in a Sideboard.

Frequently Asked Questions

How wide is a sideboard drawer?

It varies far more than the cabinet does. The Oxford sideboard has one drawer 87.4cm wide and 17.8cm deep. The Liverpool sideboard is the same 180cm cabinet but has three drawers, each 53.8cm wide and 21.6cm deep.

What height should a sideboard be?

For serving while standing, 85cm to 86cm, which is kitchen bench height. Liverpool at 76cm matches dining table height. Richmond at 65cm sits below the table and suits spots where a taller cabinet would block a sightline.

Which sideboard is best for storing table linen?

The Oxford, because its single drawer runs 87.4cm wide and takes a folded tablecloth, placemats and table runners lying flat without a crease.

How deep are Cedora sideboards?

Between 45cm and 46cm across every model, so depth is not a deciding factor. Width runs 130cm to 180cm and height 65cm to 86cm, which is where the real differences sit.
