What 20cm Actually Changes
Three things, and none of them is storage volume, because the drawer count is five either way.
- The top surface. At 100cm a Liverpool tallboy top sits at chest height on most adults and works as a surface. At 120cm the London top is above eye line for many people and stops being useful for anything you need to see.
- The top drawer. A drawer at 105cm is easy. The same drawer at 115cm means reaching up and pulling out, which is awkward with weight in it.
- Wall furniture above it. A 120cm tallboy leaves very little room under a standard window sill or a wall mounted mirror.
The Shallow Question

Choosing the Height Against the Room
Three measurements in the room decide which of the five heights works, and none of them is the ceiling.
- Window sill height. Australian sills commonly land between 90cm and 110cm. A 120cm London tallboy under a 100cm sill blocks the bottom of the window. A 100cm Liverpool clears most of them.
- Light switch and power point height. Switches sit around 110cm to 120cm. A tall tallboy pushed against that wall can cover a switch entirely.
- The user. A top drawer is comfortable up to roughly shoulder height. On a 120cm case the top drawer opening is around 112cm, which is fine standing but awkward if you need to see into it.
